The newest grand opening on South Golden Road happened on a Saturday afternoon, September 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. It was in the King Soopers shopping center, in the unit next to Pet Supply Plus. The Back Nine Golf is in Suite A100 at 17211 South Golden Road. It runs indoor golf simulators around the clock, which makes it one of the few places in Golden where you can play a round at midnight in January.
It is also the latest in a series. In the past couple of years South Golden Road has picked up a family-run coffee and skate shop, a brick-and-mortar home for a longtime Golden food truck, and an indoor golf venue. A local brewery has also committed to building its permanent home here. The street that connects all of them isn't scheduled for its own rebuild until 2028 at the earliest. For the next few years, the corridor gets its new destinations before it gets a design that ties them together.
Three newer stops, all in existing buildings
Sogo Beans and Boards is at 16185 South Golden Road. Westword profiled it in August 2026, when it was in its second year of business. The Smith family runs it: Kevyn, Patty, and their son Ely. Westword noted its creative drink menu and that the family makes almost all of its ingredients in-house. The skate half of the business started first. The family moved to Colorado in 2008 and first lived in north Denver. They came to Golden because Ely's skateboarding needed more room. His trick videos have since built an Instagram and TikTok following of more than 13,000 under the handle @turtleshorts.
La Huacha is at 16500 South Golden Road, in a space that used to hold another restaurant. Westword covered the opening in February 2025. The owner used to work at Palenque Cocina Y Agaveria in Littleton. La Huacha began as a salsa business and ran as a food truck in Golden starting in 2021 before it moved indoors. Hours and specials change, so check the restaurant's own channels before you plan a Tuesday around it.
The Back Nine Golf is the newest of the three, as of September 2026.
All three moved into buildings that were already there: a shopping-center unit, a former restaurant space, a storefront along the road. None of them waited for new construction. They spread across about fourteen hundred address numbers, from 16185 to 17211. The road between them still works the way it did before they arrived.
The next arrivals already have target dates
Two bigger projects are moving along the same stretch, and both have published timelines.
Bruz Beers is a Belgian-focused brewery. It agreed to buy a one-acre property at 17575 South Golden Road for a flagship brewery. Westword reported in August 2026 that construction was expected to start within six months and that a grand opening was tentatively set for mid-2028. Co-owner Ryan Evans had looked for a flagship site for five years and toured spaces that included churches. He settled on his hometown of Golden. To focus on the new site, Bruz closed its Off Fax taproom at 1495 York St. in Denver after a final night on September 24. "We need to focus on Golden, we need to put the bandwidth there, to make it our permanent home that we own," Evans told Westword.
AVERE on South Golden, from REVA Development, sits on 14.4 acres made up of five parcels just east of the city limits along the road. Its approvals cover two mixed-use buildings and townhomes. They also include 20,000 square feet of retail in the buildings that front South Golden Road, plus amenities such as green space and gathering areas. GoldenToday ran photos of heavy earthmoving at 16999 South Golden Road in September 2025. As of June 2026, the developer's page says mass grading is finished, land development is underway, and pad-ready lots for vertical construction are expected in Q4 2026.
Put next to the city's schedule for the road, those dates look like this:
| What | Where | Status or target |
|---|---|---|
| Sogo Beans and Boards | 16185 South Golden Rd. | Open, in its second year as of August 2026 |
| La Huacha | 16500 South Golden Rd. | Opened February 2025 |
| The Back Nine Golf | 17211 South Golden Rd., Ste. A100 | Grand opening September 19, 2026 |
| AVERE on South Golden retail | 16999 South Golden Rd. | Vertical construction expected Q4 2026 |
| Bruz Beers flagship | 17575 South Golden Rd. | Tentative mid-2028 opening |
| South Golden Road Complete Street | Corridor-wide | Design 2027-28, construction 2028-29, grant-dependent |
The street project comes last on that list.
The street itself runs on a later clock
On the City of Golden's Guiding Golden site, a resident asked why the city wasn't focusing on South Golden Road between Johnson Road and the Ford-Jackson merge. The question described a bike lane that stops and starts, curb cuts without raised crosswalks, and a mix of bus stops, small businesses and homes along that stretch.
The city answered that it funds projects by their ranking in the 2020 Transportation Master Plan and the 2023 Pedestrian and Bike Plan. Ford-Jackson ranks as a Tier 1 project and the South Golden Road Complete Street as Tier 2. Many of the elements the resident listed would be included in a complete street design. The 10-year capital program schedules South Golden Road design for 2027-28 and construction for 2028-29, with most of the money expected to come from federal or state grants. The answer ends with a caveat:
"Given the uncertainty with federal funding, the design timeline may be pushed back depending on available funds."
The page shows that answer as posted about a year ago, so treat the years as the city's plan from that point. None of them are locked in. The adopted 2026 Comprehensive Plan still lists the 2016 South Golden Road Plan among Golden's neighborhood plans, so the corridor still has a plan of its own on the books.
One piece is moving sooner. City Council adopted Golden's first Transportation Demand Management Plan on May 12, 2026. Staff are building the program through 2026 with businesses and the community. The program covers central Golden: downtown, the Colorado School of Mines, and South Golden Road. Its goal is fewer car trips and more walking, biking, carpooling and transit. The city estimates that about 90% of trips start or end outside city limits. The program is voluntary. Businesses that want to take part can contact Grace Fleming, a city planner, at [email protected].
That gives South Golden Road a voluntary program running now, a physical rebuild penciled in for 2028-29, and a brewery aiming for mid-2028. If both of those 2028 targets hold, the new brewery could open around the time the road outside it is being redesigned. If grant money is slow, the brewery opens first.
Downtown's additions landed in a single building
North of the corridor, downtown's newest additions arrived very differently. Call Your Mother, the bagel-and-coffee deli, opened at 1106 Washington Ave. in July 2026. Next door, in Suite 102 of the same building, Stay Golden Mercantile sells curated gifts and home goods. It has a grand-opening celebration on October 10, though its website says the shop is already open.
On Washington Avenue, two new businesses share an address on a street that is already built for walking between shops. South Golden Road's new businesses are spread across separate centers and lots along a road the city itself ranks for a future redesign. That spacing is why the street plan matters more on the south side than anywhere else in town right now.
Using the corridor before the road catches up
Until a complete street design reaches construction, these stops work best as separate trips, each planned on its own terms:
- Morning: Sogo Beans and Boards at 16185 South Golden Road for coffee made largely in-house, and a skate shop in the same place.
- Midday: La Huacha at 16500 South Golden Road. Confirm current hours first.
- Late or bad-weather hours: The Back Nine Golf in the King Soopers center at 17211 South Golden Road, where the simulators are open 24/7.
- Something to check on: the AVERE site at 16999 South Golden Road, where the developer expects vertical construction to begin in Q4 2026, and the Bruz Beers lot at 17575 South Golden Road, where Westword reported construction should start by early 2027.
If you want a say in what the road becomes, the Guiding Golden site is where the city posts its corridor and bike-pedestrian updates and answers residents' questions. The capital program's design window for South Golden Road opens in 2027.
